how’s the book going?
Happy New Year!
Those who are Curb Your Enthusiasm fans will not appreciate that phrase still being used. Most everyone else won’t mind too much :)
As we begin 2024, we’re going to answer a big question we’ve received over the past few months…how’s the book going?
And my honest reaction is ‘I don’t know’ - the metric for how the book is going changes based on perspective.
If the measuring stick is helping people, then we feel it’s going well.
If the measuring stick is helping the author, then it’s a huge success.
If the measuring stick is selling books, then I’d have to check sales, but my gut is this would not fall in the ‘very successful’ category.
If the measuring stick is staying true to why you wrote it, then it’s a part success and part struggle.
We can cover a lot of ground of how the book is going based on which metric is used.
Here’s where we truly land…
Over coffee a little while back, Ashley told me how she’s responding to the question, and I’m sharing it with you as it will be my answer moving forward. Simple and to the point:
“We feel the book is reaching those who need it”
That's it. It’s not forced. It's not comparing it to anything else. It’s the truth.
Wait, back up, Mathias, how is being true to why you wrote it be part success and part struggle? Good catch, thought I’d be able to slip that one in without elaborating but turns out you guys do read these!
It’s part success because it’s helped me and it’s helped others, in various ways. That’s straightforward. It’s part struggle because I’m having to turn down that part of me which measures success by numbers. As much as I’d love to not think about if the book has sold and the reach of it, I do.
The good news is that the part that is the struggle of staying true is easily debunked and dismissed with a healthy mindset.
The bad news is the healthy mindset ending of that statement. Well not bad news, lets just say thats the work of it. A healthy mindset takes work.
If you’ve made it this far, let us know how you think the book is doing!! If you’ve read it, let us know, we love to hear from you.
Thanks for being here.
We’ll talk to you soon.
