We’re still here.
I’ve been slacking on the ‘gram and the blog.
Actually, I’ll rephrase, I’ve shifted my priorities.
You may have noticed that the weekly blogs have gone from weekly to bi-weekly (ish). And Instagram has fallen from structured days to post to well, very unstructured. This is exactly the opposite of how one builds an audience. From what I’m told by professionals, the audience building comes from consistency. Which should work well for me as consistency is a form of discipline…had to tie Stoicism in here.
For someone who prides themselves on discipline, the realization of these things slowing surprised me at first. How did I let it slow down, why did I take the foot off the gas?
The reason was clear relatively quickly - things shifted.
Instead of focusing on social media growth, I’m putting more time into the outreach plan. I couldn’t get in touch with any treatment or recovery centers without the book, so socials were a great place to focus my energy. Now having the book out there in the world, my energy is better served locating the centers, shipping the books, following up and expanding my direct network in the recovery world.
That doesn’t mean this blog stops or posting stops. That means they look different for me. They feel very different to me. A popular post means little next to an email from the Clinical Director of a facility letting me know that once they read NYTFG, they will likely add it to their library or bookstore.
That’s where the magic is.
The magic is old friends of mine messaging me that they have a contact at a center and they’d love to connect me with them.
It’s more of a hidden network and it comes with less social praise, but it is much more fulfilling and is more aligned with the end goal, helping others.
There’s a phrase in the rooms of recovery that goes “don’t leave before the miracle happens.” We know that this blog and IG posts are traditionally not where the miracle happens but you never know who stumbles upon them. We do think the miracle is more likely to happen with the book in the hands of someone who needs it.
That being said, please continue to watch the reels, like the post and share whatever resonates…I said things shifted, doesn’t mean the blog and socials are over:)
Also, we love hearing from you. Your emails do not go unnoticed, even if it takes time to respond. Send the notes, share the stories, continue to be as amazing as you’ve been connecting us with your network.
Everything is greatly appreciated. And don’t worry, we’ll get deep next blog post…this little blurb was more of an update.
XOXO, Gossip Girl
…I mean…
Thanks for being here. Talk to you soon.
